Spears label files Web piracy suit

Posted by pinrobot123 on October 30, 2007

By Steve Gorman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Britney Spears’ music label filed a copyright infringement suit on Thursday, accusing the popular Internet gossip site PerezHilton.com of posting unauthorized recordings from her forthcoming album.

The lawsuit came a day after Jive Records, part of Sony BMG Music Entertainment’s Zomba Label Group, announced that it would release “Blackout” two weeks earlier than originally planned because some tracks had been leaked online.

“Blackout,” Spears’ first album of new material in four years, is now slated to reach stores October 30 in the United States and a day earlier internationally.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, accuses PerezHilton.com and its proprietor, Mario Lavandeira, of illegally obtaining and posting at least 10 completed songs and unfinished demos during the past three months.

The suit seeks unspecified monetary damages and a court order barring further infringement by the site.

Peter Anderson, a lawyer for Zomba, said that some of the material in question was removed from the site by its Internet service provider in early September when the label first raised the issue, but some disputed content remained posted.

Washington, Oct 12 : Britney Spears has notched a small victory in her child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, by winning the modified visitation rules, that allow her two sons to spend the night with her once a week, as long as they are accompanied by a court-sanctioned monitor.

Spears made her first court appearance on Oct 11, pleading with a Los Angeles judge to be granted more time with her two sons.

Spears’ attorney had filed an emergency motion on Oct 10 seeking to expand the singer’s visitation rights.

Mark Vincent Kaplan, the lawyer for Kevin Federline, said he “voluntarily agreed” to allow the elongated visit but refused to offer any other specifics.

The ???Toxic??™ singer made an in-person appeal two hours after Los Angeles Court Commissioner Scott Gordon initially refused to change the custody arrangements.

Spears spent an hour answering the judge’s questions, following which Gordon apparently had a change of heart, reports E! Online.

50 Cent's Curtis shallow attempt at profundity

Posted by pinrobot123 on October 29, 2007

Curtis, to a sales battle. 50 Centsaid aid that if he lost, he would retire from rap forever.

After the first week of sales, 50 Centlost the battle by a whopping 266,000 albums according toNielson SoundScan. Hopefully the American public has wisedup and will stop buying what 50 Cent claims to be hip-hop.

The album’s first three tracks all revolvearound the same common theme: guns. By the end of the track"I’ll Still Kill," it gets old. The beat is nobetter, an annoying synthesizer over a drum beat thatsounds like it was made on Apple’s Garage Band. Mostsuccessful hip-hop artists who rap about guns and murdercan so because they talk about it with ease.

Without a central producer, most of thebeats onCurtis sound disconnected and don’t flowfrom one track to the next. The best beats on the album arecreated by Havoc, half of the legendary hip-hop duo MobbDeep. However, he only gets two beats on the CD, saving"Fully Loaded Clip" and "Curtis 187"from 50 Cent’s poor beats.

If the entirety ofCurtis isn’t all bad though, justmostly.

Britney Spears Receives Modified Visitation Rules for Her Children

Posted by pinrobot123 on October 29, 2007

Britney Spears received modified visitation rules allowing one supervised overnight stay a week with her two young sons, while the pop star’s attorney requested her mother become the court-appointed monitor.

The singer made a surprise October 11 appearance in court, after Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon held a morning hearing on her emergency request to expand visitation but declined to rule. He gave attorneys for Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline, who was recently awarded custody of the boys, more time to discuss the matter outside court.

Spears was previously permitted monitored visits with the children, but without overnight stays.

Neither she nor her attorneys spoke to reporters after the closed, afternoon hearing.

Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini announced the new visitation order but declined to name the monitor.

Get Rich Or Die Tryin

Posted by pinrobot123 on October 29, 2007

The Story Of 50 Cent On M-Net This month DStv brings audiences across Africa one of the biggest and most popular stars in hip-hop, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, as he stars in GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN’, a hard-hitting drama directed by six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan. Premiering on Friday September 21 at 22:00 CAT, the film is about an orphaned street kid who makes his mark in the drug trade but finally dares to leave the violence behind and become the rap artiste he was meant to be. Marcus (Jackson) has always known he was going to be a rapper but when his mother is murdered he turns to dealing drugs to pay the rent. As his world spirals out of control he begins to apply the same manic intensity to his writing as he does to dealing; he has to write down his words to stay sane. For years he endures this living hell until a tragedy that nearly kills him gets Marcus to change his life.GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN’, similar to the Eminem film 8 Mile, is a semi-autobiographical account of 50 Cent’s own life. Born Curtis James Jackson, aka 50 Cent, on July 6 in 1975, he rose to fame following the release of his albums Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and The Massacre. Talented 50 Cent achieved multi-platinum success with both albums, selling over twenty million records worldwide. As depicted in the film, 50 Cent began drug dealing at the tender age of twelve during the 1980’s. After leaving drug dealing in favor of pursuing a rap career, he was shot nine times in 2000. After releasing his mixtape compilation Guess Who’s Back? in 2002, 50 Cent was discovered by rapper Eminem and signed to Interscope Records. With the help of Eminem and fellow rapper, Dr. Dre – who produced his first major commercial successes – he became one of the highest selling rap artistes in the world. In 2003, he founded the record label G-Unit Records, which signed successful rappers such as Toung Buck, Lloyd Bank and Tony Yayo. In 2005 the vocal rapper also pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN’.
